Natalie's Story

"When I first came to Gilead House I was at a very low point in my life. I had just come off being on an ankle bracelet for a year. I had eight felonies and my life had not turned out how I thought it would."

"I was finally looking at life through sober eyes, everything was new, it was like being reborn and having to start all over from scratch."

Mentor Program

mentor

It is through the Mentor program at Gilead House that we provide the support systems that are one of the basic foundations of individual success.  Studies have shown that a person learns from role models how to live emotionally and our program is geared towards that end through the mom/mentor relationships.  The mentors provide not only support, but the modeling of the persistent efforts so often needed to change habits and lives.  Dozens of unbreakable bonds have been formed over the years between these women that continue long after the program has ended.  One of the recent resident moms remarked that our mentor program is what sets Gilead House apart by creating a family, not just another program.  Our mentors are not professionally trained for their positions but are caring women who want to do what they can to improve another’s life.  Author Leo Buscaglia says that a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, have the potential to turn a life around.  We agree.  We see it happening every day!
