Life Skills

Remember when your mother or grandmother taught you how to make the perfect edge on a piecrust or how to wrap the thread around three times and push the needle through when you sew on a button?  Few of the women who pass through our program came from homes that had the luxury of time spent sharing what we think of as common life skills.  Our life skills teachers only need an hour to pass on their knowledge of everything from making great budget meals, relaxation techniques, throwing an affordable kid’s party to checking the oil in your car!  These simple skills help to alleviate many frustrations and build the self reliance that is so often lacking in the lives of our GH families.   Many don’t have the time to be a mentor but most have an hour to share a talent, skill or knowledge they have acquired to enhance the lives and lighten the daily load of our moms.
